Opened in 1903, Longdown Railway Station was built as part of the Exeter Railway, itself an extension of the earlier Teign Valley Railway Line.
Nestled in beautiful countryside between two tunnels, and well over a mile from the village of Longdown, the station was never busy, even in the heyday of the branch in the 1930s when seven daily services operated each way between Exeter and Heathfield. The line was, however, a useful diversionary route, and came into its own when the South Devon main line was unavailable.
Closed since 1958, this time capsule has remained largely unaltered, and local railway historian Mark Chambers and landowner Charles Eden invite you on this rare opportunity to visit and learn more about this branch line station and walk the line through the remaining open tunnel, as far as the site of Dunsford Halt.
