By Longdown Village Hall Management Committee
Steam locomotive at Longdown Railway Station

We are delighted to announce a rare opportunity to visit the long-closed Longdown Railway Station and walk the line through the remaining open tunnel — joined by local railway historian Mark Chambers and landowner Charles Eden.

When

Sunday 28 June 2026. The walk starts at Longdown Railway Station, off the B3212 just west of the village.

Tickets

Tickets are £10 each. Capacity is limited to 40 walkers so early booking is recommended. Parking at the station is very limited — please car share if you can. A small number of free parking spaces can be reserved at the time of booking.

All funds raised go towards the upkeep of Longdown Village Hall.

What to expect

Opened in 1903 and closed since 1958, the station is a near-perfectly preserved time capsule of branch line railway history. The walk takes in the surviving tunnel and continues along the trackbed to the site of Dunsford Halt — about 3 miles in total.

Conditions will be muddy in places, so please come prepared with walking boots or wellingtons, long trousers, waterproofs and a torch for the tunnel. Unfortunately no dogs are permitted on this walk.

Full details, what to bring, and online booking are on the event page.
